Deputy Nationals Leader Perin Davey has called for additional reassurance that the security checks for Palestinians have been “robust” and each person has a “legitimate claim” to enter Australia. The Albanese government granted 860 temporary visas to Palestinians from October 7 to November 20. Labor has come under renewed scrutiny over its handling of the country’s borders, with questions raised over the security checks undertaken before the Palestinians were granted visas. Foreign Minister Penny Wong reassured Australians all critical security checks have been taken for Palestinians granted temporary visas. Ms Davey said she is “not convinced” the government is across the over 800 people being brought into Australia.
