Acting Shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians Perin Davey has said that Australians deserve more detail from the Albanese Government on their new housing proposal.
“The Coalition welcomes any action taken to address Indigenous disadvantage where it exists,” Senator Davey said.
“But once again, the Albanese Government has announced a big spend of tax-payer money, and provided absolutely no detail to explain how it will work.
“We have seen big spends before and we have seen the NT Labor government fail to meet their financial commitments before.
“Now, at a cost of around $1.5 million per house, Labor are showing they still have not learned you can’t just throw more money at the problem and hope it goes away.
“Aboriginal Australians living in the remote Northern Territory have been crying out for help. They hear a lot of talk, see a lot of promises for funding but still feel unheard.
“We need to make sure they are getting the programs they need, and the funding is getting there.
“That is why Shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians Senator Nampijinpa Price has been fighting so hard for audits, transparency, and accountability.
“We need an audit so we can understand where government money and resources can be better used, to look at where government efforts are producing positive outcomes and stop funnelling it into places where it is not producing those outcomes.
“Let’s stop the big spends with no plan and make sure we get this right.”
