Access to Sydney has just been made easier for Hunter locals, thanks to the Sydney to Newcastle faster rail upgrade worth $1 billion.

As part of the Coalition Government’s $3.3 billion plan for improved infrastructure for New South Wales, $1 billion has been dedicated to the faster trail upgrade.

Senator for New South Wales, Perin Davey, said better access to Sydney from Newcastle will have flow on benefits across the Hunter.

“Easing the pressure of long commutes on regional communities is the perfect way to encourage growth and regionalisation.” Senator Davey said.

“Newcastle is the gateway to the Hunter so improving access to Newcastle entices people to explore beyond for tourism, recreation or employment.

“That is why our Government is investing in the Newcastle Airport runway upgrades and the faster rail project.

“Government Investment in infrastructure is key to encouraging private investment in the regions,” Senator Davey said.

With new investments for infrastructure in every State and Territory, the Liberal and Nationals Government’s 10-year Infrastructure Investment Pipeline will increase by over $10 billion, which is a new record.

Investing in infrastructure across Australia will support more than 10,000 jobs which will help the Australian economy become stronger and more resilient.
