Bega District News- Respiratory clinic launches in Bega and Eden as part of COVID-19 response

Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Regional Health and Community Services is proud to be a part of the Australian government’s response to COVID-19 with the opening of a GP-led respiratory clinic established in Bega and Eden.

The purpose of the respiratory clinic is to assess, test and diagnose mild-to-moderate respiratory conditions, including COVID-19, influenza and pneumonia.

The clinic will reduce stress on emergency services and allow people to have their health managed in one place by their GP.

Dr Muhammad Azfar Nor Zaihan is leading the clinic and is proud of the great trust and responsibility Katungul has been given as an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service.

“We’ve been called upon to deliver a service that benefits everyone, not just the Aboriginal community,” he said.

“So, I hope we can showcase our capabilities and gain more trust as a major player in healthcare provision in our area.”

Patients with any of the following symptoms are strongly encouraged to make an appointment to attend the clinic: fever, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and shortness of breath.

The clinic is free for all patients. Bookings can be made via www.katungul.com.au.

People are encouraged to book a telehealth appointment with their regular GP if they would like to clarify about their suitability to attend this clinic.

Nationals Senator for NSW Perin Davey said the Bega clinic was best placed to support people with fever, cough, sore throat, and other respiratory symptoms while avoiding the risk of infection in other members of the community.

“I encourage anyone in the local community experiencing these symptoms to call the clinic,” she said.

“The federal government has been working with local GPs and Aspen Medical – which has significant health emergency management experience in Australia and overseas.”

Federal Regional Health Minister Mark Coulton said the Bega clinic was one of up to 100 dedicated respiratory clinics being set up across Australia as part of the Australian government’s response to the outbreak.
